Affidavit: Men accused of using tractor-trailer to move cocaine to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A grand jury indicted four men Wednesday accused of using a tractor-trailer to move drugs to a location near Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Monico Uraga Arazubia, Daniel Contreras-Rueda, Mario Alberto Quiroz-Galvez and Luis Daniel Sanchez-Contreras are all facing cocaine trafficking conspiracy charges.

The men were arrested Saturday when Homeland Security agents intercepted the tractor-trailer outside a group of businesses at 4000 Sam Wilson Road, according to a criminal complaint filed prior to the indictment.

Toni Phillips works for one of the companies and saw the bust unfold.

"In vests and guns [the agents] came out to look at the [tractor trailer], and then they were here for maybe about an hour and a half," Phillips said.

According to investigators, around 8:45 a.m. Saturday, agents pulled the driver out of the truck. The driver, identified as Contrera-Rueda, reportedly told agents, "I know what you're looking for," and directed them to an area behind the driver's seat with 12 bricks of cocaine, according to the complaint.

The driver also had a piece of paper with the address 4000 Sam Wilson Road.

"It was like a silent operation, no sirens or anything," Phillips said.

The affidavit said that Aranzubia has moved large quantities of marijuana in the past, and has been the past target of Homeland Security investigations.

Investigators said he tried to unload twice as much cocaine at the same location near the airport in November.

The four men are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on the indictment.
