Alcohol, speed factors in deadly wrong-way crash, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man driving the wrong way in west Charlotte early Saturday morning died when he struck another vehicle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Micky Howard, 58, was speeding in the wrong direction in the 7000 block of Wilkinson Boulevard when his 2013 Ford F-150 hit a 2013 Kenworth Tractor driven by Ronald Hunt, 47, police said.

Howard’s truck hit the tractor’s left front fender, the driver door, the rear left tire and both trailers attached to the tractor.

The truck eventually stopped on the median and in the left westbound lane. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hunt pulled his tractor over to the right lane and was not hurt.

Police said Howard was not wearing a seat belt, and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
