CMPD: 19-year-old arrested after man shot in the neck in uptown

CHARLOTTE — A man was found shot in the neck Wednesday shortly after 3:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 100 block of South Brevard Street.

He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

Dajour Smith, 19, was arrested and charged for his involvement in this shooting.

Detectives charged Smith with assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.

It appears that a dispute between two people who knew each other led to the shooting, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Channel 9 mapped the area for a look at violent crimes over the last six months

Within a mile of where the shooting happened Wednesday, there were close to 400 incidents including assault, burglary, robbery, incidents involving weapons, sex crimes and a homicide.

A man was charged with murder recently accused killing someone in the middle of Third Street.
