Car crashes, catches on fire, killing Charlotte man

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A Charlotte man died in a single-car accident in Lincoln County, according to N.C. Highway Patrol.

Officials say Demarco Jauan Cathcart, 27, was traveling west on Unity Church Road when he drove off the right side of the road and hit a tree. The car then caught on fire.

He died due to his injuries while still at the place of the accident.

The initial investigation points to speeding and reckless driving as contributing factors to the crash.

Investigators closed down Unity Church Road for two hours.

Catchcart was driving a 2009 Infinity G37.
