Owner of Albemarle shop dies in robbery

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — The owner of a coin shop died after a shooting during a robbery in Albemarle.

Police identified the store owner as Eldridge Roger Gibson.

Detectives are still combing the scene at the B&G Coins Shop on West Main Street near Highway 73.

Police said the shooter took off with the victim's white Ford F-150.

Police said Gibson was working at B&G Coins earlier Thursday when the robber showed up.

Police said the robber left with two bags that he put in the truck and left.

When police arrived, they found Gibson on the floor. Gibson was rushed to Stanly Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The truck taken was a 2010 White Ford F 150 with North Carolina Registration Plate bearing ZRT-3645 and has chrome wheels. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of this vehicle or any information on this homicide, please call the Albemarle Police Department at 704-984-9500.
