Police make second arrest in murder of man in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a third suspect, Joseph Bradley Jones, in connection with a shooting death earlier in north Charlotte.

Jones was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A few weeks ago, detectives identified Kyerra Guinn, 22, as the person who killed Germany Byers. She was charged with murder and felony conspiracy.

On Thursday, officers took Johnquan Rowell into custody and charged him with murder and felony conspiracy as well.

On the afternoon of March 14, police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at Lasalle Street and Beatties Ford Road, where they found Byers, 37, with a gunshot wound. Byers later died.

Residents were outraged this happened in a busy area.

"I come from a time when we cared about what happened,” Jacqueline Lewis said. “We didn't have gunfire. Now you can't walk the streets.”

Byers death was Charlotte's 15th homicide of 2017.
