CMPD raising money for fellow officers in need

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is reaching out to the public to help two fellow officers who are husband and wife.

Shane Starnes spent 25 years on the force, but now battles stage 4 melanoma. The cancer is very aggressive and has spread all over his body. He is recovering from his fourth surgery and is out of work.

His wife, Angie Starnes, is a full-time officer with CMPD. She works nights so she can take care of Shane during the day, including taking him to his hospital appointments.

Fellow officers have rallied around the family recently as things have taken a turn for the worse. Angie recently broke her ankle on the job and is now out of work.

CMPD friends held a fundraiser for the couple on Saturday afternoon at the Northlake Hickory Tavern.

If you'd like to make a donation to the Starnes family, contact Officer Vickie Williams at vwilliams1@cmpd.org.
