Woman charged after shootout, fiery crash in northeast Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said one person had non-life threatening injuries in a shootout in the 3600 block of Arklow Road,  just minutes before a fiery crash in northeast Charlotte that killed one woman and sent two others to the hospital on Feb. 14.

First responders were called to WT Harris Boulevard between District Drive and Grier Road, where a car drove in the woods, flipped on its side and caught fire.

Police believe a disagreement at a club led to the shootout that caused the crash.

Kristin Renee Bradley was the driver of a 2010 Honda Civic with front seat passenger Michelle Carlina Morales and back seat passenger Kasey Ann Vance.

CMPD obtained arrest warrants on March 4th charging Bradley for her involvement in the crash.

Bradley has been charged with Felony Death by Vehicle, Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, Driving While Impaired, Reckless Driving and No Operators License.

The Honda, followed by the shooting victim's father, sped away from the club when Bradley lost control of the vehicle and wrecked in the woods.

Vance died from the crash.

The other two in the Honda were taken to the hospital.

Homicide detectives have taken the lead in the investigation.

The shootout and crash happened in a residential area. Tracey Gabriel lives in the area and said there isn't a community watch but after the violence she believes there may need to be one.

“I just think we need to be more vigilant about what’s going on in the community and maybe form a neighborhood watch because we don’t have one, and really just be watching out for each other and our safety. It’s really scary,” Gabriel said.

Alarmed neighbors such as Gabriel, who takes WT Harris to work every day, are worried about their own safety. They said anyone could've been on the road when the spray of bullets came raining down.

"I think about the children in the cars, I think about us just sitting at a stoplight, that goes through my mind," said Gabriel.

Police shut down WT Harris Boulevard for five hours while they investigated the crash. All lanes reopened around 6:45 a.m. February 14.
