HICKORY, N.C. — Fire investigators have determined a 3-alarm fire at a townhome in Hickory started in an upstairs bathroom.
The flames broke out just after 4:30 a.m. at the Westminster Park Townhomes on North Center Street.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the scene, including some volunteer departments, to help get the fire under control. The Hickory, St. Stephen's, and Long View fire departments responded to the fire.
Additionally, the Catawba County EMS and Hickory police assisted at the scene. Officials said two engines, a ladder, a rescue truck, and one command unit were used to battle the fire.
Firefighters said they evacuated surrounding townhomes.
The fire was controlled just before 5:30 a.m. Officials said no injuries were reported and two townhomes were damaged.
Investigators determined the fire started in an upstairs bathroom and was caused by a lamp, which was too close to a curtain.
