Firefighters were called to the scene on Hammonds Street, near Moores Chapel Road, just before 10 a.m. and battled intense flames shooting from the home as well as thick billowing smoke.

The homeowner told Channel 9 that she and her daughter were in the house when she heard cracking noises. They were able to escape unharmed but said they are heartbroken.

Neighbors heard loud booms and were beating on the door trying to help the mother and daughter get out.

The family is grateful they survived but told Channel 9 they lost their dog Roxy in the fire, and that everything they worked for was destroyed.

“Our whole life is in that house,” said Antoinette Pinckney. “My husband built it for us so we can have a safe place to stay and now that's gone.”
