Chopper 9 flew over the smoke and flames as crews worked to extinguish the fire.
The Charlotte Fire Department ruled the fire accidental, but haven't said exactly what started it.
Medic was at the apartment complex to keep an eye on crews who were battling the fire in the nearly 90-degree heat.
Chief Matt Westover with CFD's Battalion 3 said they have special protocols in place while battling fires in the heat.
"We make sure they are hydrated, try to put them in some shade," Westover said. "In the event that the temperature continues to rise, start to see fatigue, we'll have greater alarm fires and have more firefighters come in."
Officials said none of the firefighters were hurt, but one civilian had to be treated for injuries. They said that person is expected to be OK.
People living in four apartments in complex have been displaced due to the fire.
