CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The dim glow of candles illuminated a park in west Charlotte, less than 3 miles from where the body of 18-year old Tyshaud Brown was found near an elementary school last Wednesday.
”It’s really truly tough right now,” said Derell Moore, who is Brown’s uncle.
Dozens of family members and friends gathered at a vigil to remember the West Mecklenburg High School student.
They say he didn't hang with a rough crowd, and opted to play football and basketball instead.
“It's just crazy. He's so young and life is precious,” friend Desmond Archie said. “For someone to take it, it's not right."
Brown's slaying is one of 21 homicides in Charlotte this year, triple the number at this time last year.
“This violence has to stop. Any life lost is a life too many lost,” Moore said.
As Brown's loved ones pray for the violence to stop, they hope police will find the shooter and bring some justice.
”If you were man enough to take his life, be man enough to come forward. Say you did it,” Moore said.
