Cherryville high school teacher charged with having sex with student

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — A teacher at Cherryville High School was charged after allegations surfaced that she had sex with a 17-year-old student at the school.

Summer Sparrow was charged Wednesday with having sex with a student.

Search warrants show that the student and his parents reported the incident to the Cherryville Police Department in October.

The student told officers he started talking with the Sparrow through the social media app, Snapchat, at the beginning of October. Documents show the two spoke on a daily basis, and the conversations escalated to a flirtatious nature.

According to the search warrant, the accuser asked Sparrow if she wanted to hang out, and she said she would hang out with him after she dropped her daughter off at a party.

The documents said that Sparrow picked up the student at a car wash, then took him back to her home, where they had sexual intercourse.

The search warrants also reveal that the student took a nude picture of the teacher. She told him not to tell anyone, but he showed the picture to his friends the same day, the warrant states.

Weeks later, the teen and his parents talked to police and he gave them detailed information about Sparrow's home and they seized her phone, the warrant reveals.

Sparrow is suspended with pay pending an internal school investigation.
