HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Officials had to close the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 near Huntersville Tuesday morning after a tanker truck crashed through a barrier wall in a construction zone.
The wreck happened just before 10:45 a.m. near exit 23.
From Chopper 9, the tanker appeared to have slammed through the concrete barrier in the construction zone on the left side of the interstate.
A Loomis truck could also be seen caught between the tanker and that barrier wall.
HAZMAT crews were called to the scene because of a fuel spill. Firefighters said the tanker was hauling latex and that crews were working to offload the fuel from the saddle tank of the Loomis truck.
