Arrest made after woman shot in head

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigators are working on getting warrants for the suspects involved in a shooting that lead to a woman being shot in the head Tuesday morning in northwest Charlotte.

Authorities arrested Kentral Massey and charged him in connection to the shootings.

Police told Eyewitness News that multiple people played a role in the incident.

"Things always happen here," Demetrius Shannon said after waking up to news that a woman was found shot in the parking lot of his apartment complex.

The incident reinforced Shannon's concerns over the safety of his community.

"We've got kids around here, shootings always happen when kids are around, I mean it's crazy," said Shannon.

Police said they found the 29-year-old victim on the 1800 block of Griers Grove Road around 3:30 a.m. and around the same time, nearby at Griers Grove and Beatties Ford Road. They found a 23-year-old man who'd been shot at in a car.

Investigators discovered multiple shell casings and say both were likely shot at a mile and a half away on Capps Hill Mine Road.  It's unclear how they ended up at separate locations.

Dewitt Leeper lives down the block.

"I didn't know what to think really because it's happening all over, nowhere is safe," Leeper said.

He didn't want to show his face but called his neighborhood nice and quiet. He said he's lived there for more than 40 years and is concerned about their peace being interrupted.

"It's changed a lot, you have a lot of younger people,"' he said.

Police say the shooting involved multiple parties that knew each other. And despite her injuries the victim is able and willing to cooperate with police to catch the suspects.

"I hope things get better," Shannon said.
