CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have been notified that Juan Antonio Quintanilla-Garza, 32, turned himself in to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office in Texas Sunday, roughly 1,300 miles away.

CMPD had been searching for Quintanilla-Garza after police said he hit and killed 6-year-old Anthony Castellon-Riveralast last Sunday in east Charlotte, then drove off.
Officials said the extradition process will begin immediately, but there is no current timetable on Quintanilla-Garza’s return to Mecklenburg County.
