Forecast: Storms move out of Charlotte area

UPDATE: Severe storms pushed out of the area Tuesday night.

Those storms brought hail and heavy rain Tuesday that prompted several severe thunderstorms.

WEDNESDAY: The Carolinas will have a brief break from the active weather on Wednesday. A few clouds will stick around, with temperatures topping off in the 70s.

Tuesday: Roads are still very damp across the Carolinas Tuesday morning thanks to Monday night's heavy rain.

In Charlotte, the airport has received nearly 2.5 inches of rain since Saturday, doubling the rainfall amounts from both March and April combined.

Conditions remained fairly quiet through the morning hours, but after lunchtime Tuesday, a few thunderstorms will begin to develop.

Trees had also toppled over on Thermal Road in southeast Charlotte, but nobody was hurt.

Once again, storms Tuesday will be capable of producing heavy rain, quarter size hail and strong wind gusts. The tornado threat on Tuesday will remain very low. Temperatures will warm back into the lower 80s.

A few lingering showers will remain during the drive home, but majority of the activity will shift to our east Tuesday night.

THURSDAY:  We are monitoring a system moving out of central Canada that will bring the chance for rain into the Carolinas. As this system continues to develop, the timing and specific details are still uncertain. Temperatures will be drastically cooler though, only making in into the 60s.

WEEKEND: Despite a very soggy week, by the time we head into Friday, conditions will start to dry out. Sunshine will dominate the Carolinas through Sunday, with temperatures staying in the 70-80s.
