Man arrested in connection with Lancaster homicide

Kenneth Hood Jr.

A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon, Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said.

Deputies found Devone Frazier, 30, lying on his back outside a house on 13th Street. Officials said the house is not Frazier's.

Paramedics took Frazier to Springs Hospital, where he died.

Investigators identified Kenneth Hood Jr., 19, as a suspect in the case. They learned that he was at the Palmetto Place Apartments on Pardue Street.

Hood ran from officers but was taken into custody, authorities said.

He is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, police said.

Faile released the following statement:

“This homicide occurred in broad daylight on a Sunday in the street around the corner from a church during services. Hood became our suspect soon after the incident occurred. We received information from many sources yesterday and last night, which gave us what we needed to obtain warrants for Hood’s arrest.  We received more information early this morning on Hood’s whereabouts, which allowed us to quickly take him into custody. This is exactly the kind of cooperation we need from citizens, and I appreciate the help of all those who came forward. I also want to thank our patrol officers and investigators for their hard work and persistence, which allowed us to solve this case so quickly. ”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 or Crimestoppers at 888-274-6372.
