Couple on first date robbed, kidnapped outside bowling alley, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A first date turned into a night of fear in a popular and busy bar and restaurant area in south Charlotte.

According to a police report, a man and a woman were robbed at gunpoint around 10:30 p.m. Monday outside Ten Park Lanes on Montford Drive.

The man, who didn’t want to be identified, told Eyewitness News reporter Gina Esposito that he and the woman had just finished their game at the bowling alley and were in his date’s car when a man with a gun tapped on the window.

He said the man forced them to unlock the doors, jumped into the back seat then demanded cash before telling the woman to drive out of the parking lot onto Park Road.

“He had (the gun) pointed in between us just in case one of us decided to act like a hero,” the victim told Channel 9.

The man eventually told the couple to stop in the middle of Park Road.  He got out of the car and told the victims to keep driving without stopping, the victim said.

The couple drove back to the bowling alley and called 911.

Police told the couple that they went through surveillance video and collected fingerprints from the car, but Monday night’s heavy rain made it difficult for them to clearly see or identify the assailant.

No arrests have been made.
