Troopers identify motorcyclist killed after crashing into pickup truck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A motorcyclist died in a wreck Sunday around 8:40 p.m. on I-485 at mile marker 49 near Idlewild Road.

Troopers identified the motorcyclist as Richard Burnette, 49, from Matthews.

Troopers said they were responding to another accident involving a car that was on a wrecker.

While traffic was backed up, the motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed and crashed into the back of a pickup truck, troopers said.

Officials closed the inner loop of I-485 near Lawyers and Idlewild roads during the investigation.
