Myrtle Beach has been named the third most dangerous city in America for 2017.

SafeWise released its 30 Most Dangerous Cities in America report on Tuesday using FBI crime data for cities with a population of 10,000 or higher.

Past coverage on Myrtle Beach incidents:

The crime rate has fallen in recent years, according to the FBI.

While American cities are safer overall, 2016's preliminary numbers indicate this was the first since 1991 that saw an increase in crime.

Although there are some fluctuations, rates for both property and violent crime are higher in the southern and western regions of the United States. The North, specifically New England, enjoys lower-than-average crime rates.
