MATTHEWS, N.C. - A 34-year-old North Carolina House member has given birth to a second child while serving in office.
Democratic Rep. Tricia Cotham of Mecklenburg County gave birth to son, Ryan Francis Meek, on Friday.
In 2010, Cotham welcomed her first son, Elliot Matthew Meek. That birth happened just days before Cotham won her third legislative term.
A sitting lawmaker having a baby in North Carolina is rare. Rep. Melanie Goodwin became the first lawmaker to have a baby while holding office in 2008.
