Angela Porter heard a commotion and walked from her house to where dozens of people were standing around.
There were emergency lights flashing and a man on the ground bleeding to death Tuesday night near her home on Hampton Road in Lancaster.
"It's so sad. I don't what else we can do but pray," she said.
That's the way many of her neighbors feel too. Yusuf Salaam, 32, was the second person shot and killed in Lancaster in three days.
He was at a home on Hampton Road and was shot outside near the street. The homeowner said, 'No comment,' when Channel 9 asked her about what happened.
Police said Salaam was shot several times and fell in the front yard of the house on the corner.
The motive is unknown.
"We're chasing down leads on that currently. Our investigative team is doing that," Lancaster police Capt. Dwayne Davis said.
On Sunday afternoon, Devone Frazier, 30, was shot on 13th Street while two churches were holding services only 100 yards away. The shooting was on the opposite side of town and police don't think it's related to Salaam's killing.
Kenneth Hood Jr., 19, was charged with shooting Frazier.
Porter is a former teacher at Lancaster High School and she knew Hood.
"He was one of my students. I was appalled to hear that on the news," she said.
Other neighbors said the spike in violence is not only alarming, but too close to home.
Paulette Adams said people need to speak up and give the police information.
"I've
been here all my life and this is the worst I've ever seen Lancaster," she said.
As of late Wednesday, there have no arrests in Salaam's murder
In a third incident, two men were injured Monday night in another shooting on Yancy Street. They survived.
There are no arrests in that case.
