Police identify recent USC grad killed in Park Road crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified the man they say died in a violent crash in south Charlotte near Pineville early Tuesday morning.

Authorities were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. on Park Road, not far from CMC-Pineville and Pineville-Matthews Road, but officials believe the wreck happened hours earlier.

Paramedics told Channel 9 that a young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified him as 25-year-old Kyle Lord, a recent University of South Carolina graduate.

Investigators said it appeared he was thrown from the vehicle.

Channel 9 saw the badly damaged SUV was flipped over and a brick sign was smashed from the impact, with the vehicle's bumper still hanging from it.

Park Road was closed between Park Cedar Drive and Willow Ridge Road while police investigated, and was expected to remain closed for hours.
