CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed at a busy intersection in the city’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
Officers and paramedics were called to The Plaza and Central Avenue just after midnight Monday, where they found Charles White, 59, in the roadway.
White was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives said White was crossing The Plaza when he was hit by a 2012 GMC SUV driven by Frank McCorey.
Speed and alcohol are not contributing factors for the driver involved in the crash, police said.
Investigators said White was wearing dark clothing and was not crossing in a crosswalk at the time of the crash. They said it's not clear if White was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
