Livingstone College put on lockdown after 'hundreds' involved in fights

SAILISBURY, N.C. — Channel 9 hopes to learn more Monday about the person who police arrested in Salisbury after officers had to use pepper-spray on Livingstone College students over the weekend.

Investigators said hundreds of people were celebrating after Saturday night's homecoming game, and those people then confronted officers, leading police to arrest one person.

Police said several hundred students and visitors at the college were involved in several fights, prompting campus police to place the school on temporary lockdown.

Salisbury police said in a statement that they were called to the campus of the school early Sunday for a third time because of fights and disorderly actions among the crowd.

Authorities used tear gas to disperse the crowd when there were confrontations between police and people in the group. One person was arrested.

School officials put the campus on lockdown Saturday night, before eventually lifting that order Sunday morning.
