LAKE LURE, N.C. — Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village residents created a thank-you video for the more than 700 firefighters from 24 states who battled the Party Rock fire.
The 7,142-acre fire, which burned from Nov. 5-29, threatened more than 1,200 homes, but not one was lost, thanks to the firefighters' efforts, Channel 9's partner, WLOS, reported.
Residents gathered together to shoot the video holding thank-you signs that read “You saved my house. You are heroes,” and “Lord please bless and protect our fearless firefighters.”
“Knowing what we could have lost and what they preserved created in us an even deeper sense of gratitude, and so I think this ‘thank you’ video reflects what we wanted to convey to the firefighters and the world,” Lake Lure Mayor Bob Keith said.
The fire cost $7,889,344 and burned almost 2,500 acres of state park property and more than 4,600 acres of private property.
