SALISBURY, N.C. — Firefighters in Rowan County had to battle flames and smoke at a home Tuesday morning.
Crews were called around 10:20 a.m. to the single-story house on Faith Road in Salisbury.
Firefighters on scene reported heavy flames through the roof, which had partially collapsed in the blaze.
The family cat escaped the blaze.
“When he came out, you can tell he had some C02 exposure,” family friend Jamie Corl said. “He was panting like a dog, which you don’t see a cat doing. After a while, his tongue receded, and he was back to being closer to himself.”
Firefighters used an oxygen mask on the cat, which was the first time they've had to use one on a pet.
EMS units also responded to the home but there have been no reports of any injuries.
Officials were investigating what started the fire.
