Sabates consults with NFL owners, visits stadium in plan to bid on Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 has learned that Charlotte Hornets minority owner Felix Sabates has an extensive plan as part of a local group preparing to bid for the Carolina Panthers.

Sabates said he has consulted with several NFL owners for advice on how to move forward, while also traveling to several NFL cities and stadiums for ideas that could improve Bank of America Stadium.

Sabates said he is working with multiple partners who already have a stake in the team and are now committed to moving forward with his investors.

The group is made up of Charlotte-area professionals and others with ties to the Queen City.

So far, Sabates has only confirmed his own involvement, while the other investors have not been named.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson announced he is selling the team at the end of the season following news he's being investigated for allegations of workplace misconduct.
