MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Gastonia driver is accused of weaving through traffic on Interstate 77 as thousands of people made their way to work.
Eyewitness News carried the chase live during Daybreak on Monday as state troopers followed the motorcyclist.
"It's just the safety of everyone involved," said Trooper Robert Keller, from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Chopper 9 was overhead as those troopers were called off the chase and the driver dodged traffic.
Eyewitness News spotted investigators handcuffing the suspect.
At first, Keller said that Tyrone Midder, 27, denied he did anything wrong, until troopers pointed at the sky.
"Once he saw the helicopter was there and the helicopter had watched him the whole time, maybe it hit home with him. That's when he started to talk," said Keller.
Keller said there was a warrant out for Midder for driving with a revoked license.
Now he also faces several charges, including a felony for eluding arrest.
"His bike has been seized by the Highway Patrol, he's not going to be able to get it back and he's probably going to see some jail time out of it," said Keller.
Keller said he's never seen a suspect head to work after a chase. But he's just glad it all ended this way.
"We're lucky he didn't hurt anyone else. That's our main concern," said Keller.
