DOT: Crosswalk in front of Garinger to be named after student killed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Department of Transportation officials said they will name a new crosswalk at Garinger High School after a student who was killed there earlier this year.

Brittany Palmer died after she was hit crossing the busy road on her way to school.

Since then, her mother has been pushing for a safer crosswalk.

Transportation officials said they hope to have the new crosswalk designed and in place in time for the 2013 school year.
