Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies in bloom on the Catawba River

For a few weeks each spring, visitors to Landsford Canal State Park in Catawba, South Carolina, can see the rare rocky shoals spider lilies.

The park, located less than an hour’s drive from uptown Charlotte, is believed to be home to the largest population of the perennial.

The lilies can be seen from May through mid-June.

Sightseers can check out the botanical beauties from an overlook in the park or by accessing the river by canoe or kayak.
