19-Year-Old Dead In Wesley Chapel Wreck

WESLEY CHAPEL, N.C.,None — Emergency officials responded to the scene of a serious three-car accident in Union County where one person died.

The accident happened at Weddington Road and Airport Road near Wesley Chapel.

Officials have confirmed that 19-year-old Santasia Johnson of Monroe died and that three others suffered serious injuries.

Troopers said 13 year-old Derrias Jackson of Monroe was in the backseat of the Altima that was rear ended. He is being kept overnight at Carolinas Medical Center Main after suffering a concussion in the accident. The driver, 19 year-old Scott Ginez was treated and released. Police say Johnson, Ginez, and Jackson were friends.

Tonight, Eyewitness News spoke with another one of Johnson's friends Avery Wilmont.

"She was one of those fun girls that you knew in school that you always wanted to be around because every moment around her was a good moment." Wilmont added, "I know that she'd really want everybody to be strong and know that she's in a better place."

Chopper 9 flew over the scene where police said a Nissan Altima was attempting to turn onto Airport Road when a Toyota Camry rear-ended it pushing it into the path of a truck.

Troopers charged the driver of the Camry, 21 year-old Nicole Kozack, with following too closely and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
