3 arrested in drug raid beside day care center

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Three people were arrested Wednesday morning when police raided an east Charlotte house that's located next to a day care.

Police said they received a tip about possible drug activity at the house. When they realized the home was located next to a day care, they said it became a high priority.

The house is on Central Avenue, near Briar Creek Road, next to the Tele-Time Academy day care center.

SWAT officers executed a search warrant, and three people were arrested. Two face drug-related charges.

Amy Sturkey, who lives nearby, described what she heard as officers entered the house.

"Just after the alarm went off this morning, I heard this ‘Boom,'" she said.

Parents like John Seck learned about what happened as they came to drop their children off.

"I never knew what was happening here," Seck said. "I kind of of knew it was a place where people come and go, but I didn't know there was a drug-related problem."

Tigan King had just dropped off her 3-year-old daughter when Channel 9 spoke to her.

"It's a good, family-run business but it's just a problem -- this house right here is so close to here," King said.
