9 charged with DWI at southeast Charlotte checkpoint

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police teamed up with Matthews police to hold a DWI checkpoint station on Thursday night.

Police said they charged nine people with DWI at the checkpoint on Idlewild Road near Cedarwild Road.

Police also charged two people with underage drunken driving.

Sixteen people were found to be driving without a license, police said.

Police handed out a total of 62 charges throughout the checkpoint.

The checking station was held as part of the holiday "Booze it and Lose it" campaign, which runs from Dec. 3 through Jan. 2.
