CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte dating service that's been on Action 9's radar for years changed its name again.

It was called Dating in Charlotte.  Now, it goes by Carolina VIP Dating. The Better Business Bureau said it's the company's 11th name in 15 years.

The web address is still Dating in Charlotte, Action 9 is told is the owner is the same, and the company's "heart" logo appears to be the same as well.

Over the years, customers have complained to Action 9 about hidden fees, prices, and non-disclosure agreements they felt forced to sign. At one point, Action 9 sent a producer undercover to see firsthand.  The salesperson wanted him to pay more than $3,000 for an 18-month membership.

They eventually settled on less than $1,000 for 12 months. She wanted him to sign a promise he wouldn't tell other customers. Action 9 also found at least some of the company's success stories on its website were actually stock photos of happy couples, not necessarily real-life customers.

The BBB counts 51 complaints against the company since 2000.

“You look at changing your name 11 times and 50-plus complaints being filed against them, those two together point in the direction that they're running from their past," BBB president Tom Bartholomy said.

Action 9 tried emailing the business through its website Thursday, but the email didn't go through.
