Action 9: Driver Regrets Allowing Oil Change Shop Repair Headlights

None — Jill Solow said she regrets having her headlight bulbs changed by an oil change shop, because it caused her to have trouble driving at night.

"One light was bright and the other light was dim," she said.

Solow said a Valvoline shop tried for two hours to fix the problem with her Mazda but couldn't.

She then to her car to the dealership and was told wires had been crossed and damaged beyond repair.

"They told me I would have to have new headlights and its $450 for one," Solow said.

A second repair shop told her the same thing, so she took the $1,000 repair estimate back to the oil change shop and asked them to pay it.

"I [have] been back six times or more trying to get this fixed," she said.

Solow complained to the manager and district manager and asked them to pay the cost of replacing her headlights. They said no, claiming the damage happened at the dealership or at the repair shop.

Action 9 made calls to Andrew Slattery, the district manager. Slattery declined to comment, but agreed to pay the bill.

Now, Solow's lights work and she can drive at night again.

"I got to drive last night," she said. "I'm very happy."

Solow said in the future, she'll go to a garage that specializes in the type of repairs she needs done.
