Action 9: Publix releases warning about coupon scam

Publix said scammers are trying to get your personal information.

The scammers offer a coupon on social media saying customers get $100 off a purchase of $120 or more. Do not fall for it.

Customers say the coupon looks realistic and tempting, but probably too good to be true.

"Well, that's a great coupon," said customer Rose Beam.

The scammers got the Publix font right and included fine print "Limit one coupon per customer."

It also seems possible Publix is offering such a steal to get customers in the door since the chain is new to the area.

Just in case some customers believe the coupon, Publix is warning people on Facebook and Twitter.

Its spokesperson for the Carolinas was out of the office Monday but emailed Action 9 the following statement:

"There is a fraudulent Publix coupon circulating on social media that states '$100 off your purchase of $120 or more.'  This is not supported by Publix and this coupon is not valid at any of our locations. We recommend not participating in the promotion or providing your personal information. Thank you for your patience as we investigate this situation."

The scammers request customers share the coupon on Facebook and write a comment before it can be accessed.
