A woman whose husband is serving in Afghanistan said she was having a hard time getting a contractor to finish remodeling work.
Tanja Bentley showed Action 9 part of what's dragging out her $30,000 kitchen makeover.
“All these doors need to be exchanged,” she said. “All the appliances need to be hooked up.”
Bentley said her contractor, the Bainbridge Crew, has taken three months to finish a job that was supposed to be done in a few weeks. She said workers don't show up and that she thinks it's because Bainbridge hasn't paid either the subs or the suppliers.
“This is the island that's supposed to be in the middle of the kitchen,” Bentley said.
But that island hasn't been built.
Bentley blames Bainbridge for not buying the materials even though she's already paid them the full contract price. She said she’s complained about the pace of the work.
“We just don't get any response and nothing done,” Bentley said.
Bentley’s husband Jon, who's deployed to Afganistan, has called Bainbridge and sent them emails but gotten nowhere.
With her kitchen not functioning, Bentley is forced to cook meals outside on a camping stove.
Action 9 went to Bainbridge and talked to the owner, Rick Bainbridge. He said his company was facing tough times but said selection delays also slowed the job.
He looked into the camera and gave Jon his assurance he'll finish the work quickly.
“Jon, I apologize for our delays and we'll stay on it in the next few days,” he said.
As promised, the Bainbridge Crew was back at Jon and Tanja's house working to wrap things up by week's end.
