Charlotte Country Day's Morgan Roberts Headed To Clemson

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — According to the sports news site Orangeandwhite.com, Morgan Roberts accepted a "grayshirt" offer from the Clemson Tigers football team Tuesday. Roberts had offers from Dartmouth, Western Carolina, Elon and Ball State before his recent offer from Clemson.

Under 'grayshirt' rules, Roberts will enroll at Clemson in the fall, pay his own way, and then go on scholarship next January and count toward 2012's recruiting class. According to Orangeandwhite.com, Roberts becomes the third quarterback committed to Clemson, which currently has just one player on scholarship at the position – projected 2011 starter Tajh Boyd. He will join Tony McNeal and Cole Stoudt in the Tigers' freshman class.

Roberts passed for 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior, and nearly 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. He also rushed for more than 700 yards and 14 touchdowns. In Country Day's NC private school state title game against Charlotte-Latin, he accounted for 318 yards of total offense and five scores.

Orangeandwhite.com also notes the Tigers will have a pair of walk-on quarterbacks in rising sophomore Donny McElveen and Taylor Ogle.

Roberts was one of Channel 9's "Big 22" Player of the Year candidates for the 2010 season.
