CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte man is recovering after receiving a life-saving heart transplant this Easter weekend.
After waiting six months, he found out on Good Friday there was a donor match.
Brandon McNeely got out of surgery Saturday night.
His wife, Kimberly McNeely ,told Channel 9 it's a miracle this Easter weekend after Brandon's heart started rapidly deteriorating.
He suffers from "chemo congestive heart failure" caused by treatment of a childhood cancer.
"If it had not happened when it did, it could've been a pretty different dramatic conclusion in the days to come, so the timing was perfect," Kimberly said.
Kimberly added the experience of her husband receiving a new heart is also sobering because she knows another family lost someone just before this holiday weekend.
