CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said his department is trying to be as transparent and open as possible with the investigation into the deadly officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon, but he said they cannot release the video that may show the circumstances around the shooting.

Police dashcam video shows 43-year-old Keith Scott getting out of the car with a gun in his hand as he approached officers, sources confirmed to Channel 9.
"I can tell you a weapon was seized - a handgun. I can also tell you we did not find a book that has been made reference to. I can just tell you what I know based on what we've gathered and the scientific process of going through the evidence," Putney said.
Chief Putney said he had seen some of the video but Putney said the law simply doesn't allow them to release that video or any of the other evidence.
He said they are also going over the evidence they've gathered from the disturbance or riot overnight.
Putney said 16 officers were injured and they have made only one arrest but that could change once they look at surveillance video and speak with witnesses.
