District's highest paid principal suspended with pay

STATESVILLE, N.C.,None — The highest paid principal in the Iredell-Statesville School District has been suspended with pay.

In a letter to parents on Tuesday, officials confirmed that Statesville High School Principal Larry Rogers was suspended, but the district won't specify the reason for the suspension.

"Whatever it is he's done, they won't give us any more information," said Angela Hume, parent of an 11th-grader at Statesville High School. "For them not to let the parents know when we have kids at that school -- I don't think that's right."

A school spokesperson did reveal to Eyewitness News that the matter Rogers has been suspended for did not involve a student, wasn't sexual misconduct, didn't involve financial misconduct or anything criminal. A check of Iredell County and federal court records confirmed the district's assertions.

Eyewitness News also went to Rogers' home, but he also refused to clarify what he was being suspended for.

Rogers was named the district "Principal of the Year" in 2010 and is currently the highest paid county principal, making more than $118,000 a year.
