GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich plans Rock Hill Town Hall

ROCK HILL, S.C.,None — Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is coming to Rock Hill, officials announced Wednesday.

In his first stop on a new tour through South Carolina, Gingrich will hold a Town Hall at 9 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Magnolia Room at Laurel Creek, 417 Laurel Creek Drive, according to his state director Adam Waldeck. In recent weeks, Gingrich has surged ahead to become the frontrunner in South Carolina polls.

"If I win South Carolina, I believe I will be the nominee," Gingrich said last week in Columbia.

History has shown that a win in South Carolina's GOP primary has determined the eventual Republican nominee, from Ronald Reagan in 1980 to John McCain in 2008.

South Carolina's pivotal, first-in-the-South Republican primary is Jan. 21.
