Grammy Winner Darius Rucker To Perform National Anthem

CONCORD, N.C.,None — Grammy award winner Darius Rucker has been selected to sing the national anthem for the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 29, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Charleston, S.C. native rose to fame as the lead singer and guitarist for the band Hootie & the Blowfish, which he founded at the University of South Carolina in 1986.

Rucker announced he would pursue a solo career in country music in 2008. He has since released two county music albums. One, "Learn To Live" has been certified platinum, selling more than 1 million copies.

Rucker received the Top New Artist title from the Country Music Associtation Awards in 2009.

"I am so honored to join the NASCAR Memorial Day Weekend clebration at Charlotte Motor Speedway," said Rucker. "Any time we can bring attention to and remember those who have fought and died while serving our nation is a proud moment for me."
