CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Hundreds of people were at Central Piedmont Community College on Thursday, hoping to find jobs during its annual career fair.
A line of people stretched from the Grady Cole Center on North Kings Drive to the far end zone of Memorial Stadium. Job seekers were waiting to meet with recruiters from more than 70 businesses from a variety of industries.
"I (have) got my heels on today, but I'm going to stand out here until my feet start bleeding," job seeker Valdora Chapman said.
She recently went back to school, hoping a degree would make her more marketable.
"It's really tough if you don't have the experience or the education," she said.
CPCC President Tony Zeiss said that despite the crowd, the job market is looking up.
"We are seeing jobs in the health area and in manufacturing (and) especially defense, and in sales and retail," Zeiss said.
He said all attendees would meet with recruiters. The job fair ended at 2:30 p.m.
During last year's job fair, more than 2,000 people from the college community and the Charlotte area met with recruiters. CPCC has hosted the job fair for the last 23 years.
