Lancaster Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

LANCASTER, S.C.,None — Police in Lancaster were busy solving two shootings Sunday -- one of them a fatal shooting.

Investigators found the body of 28-year-old Montinyo Stevens just before 7 a.m. at a house on Harris Street.

An hour before that, 22-year-old Demarcus Davis showed up at the hospital with serious gunshot wounds.

Eyewitness News asked Lancaster's new police chief if the two cases were related.

"It's a very very strong possibility," said Chief Harlean Howard.

Eyewitness News checked and found that in the month of June there were two other shootings in Lancaster and the chief said they're looking into other incidents over the past few months.

"Crime trends come and go, so whether or not everything's connected we don't know, but we're trying to unravel these threads."

Howard plans to launch an initiative encouraging people to look for warning signs of crime in their neighborhoods and step forward.

Meanwhile, members of Stevens' family were looking for justice.

"I hope they find whoever did it," said Steven's cousin Shykeena Stevens.
