ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed and another was airlifted from a fiery crash Monday morning in Alexander County.
The crash between a tow truck and a tractor-trailer happened along Highway 64 near Adams Pond Lane.
Lt. Joseph Cohee with the Taylorsville Police Department told Channel 9’s Dave Faherty he was about a mile away when he spotted the smoke and rushed to the scene.
Troopers shut the highway down as a medical helicopter landed near the middle of the road. They said the impact of the head-on crash caused the tractor-trailer to go off the road.

Witnesses at the scene said flames quickly spread from the tow truck and were headed towards the tractor-trailer when Cohee and another person grabbed fire extinguishers from their vehicles and began knocking down the flames.
Channel 9 is asking for more information about the cause of the crash and the condition of the person airlifted from the scene.
