CMPD: Man charged in deadly shooting near The Plaza

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Update: Detectives charged Garrett Logan Johnson, 33, with the murder of Aaron Shealey, 32, Sunday.

Shealey’s family has been notified of his death. Detectives said during the investigation information from witnesses led to the identification of Johnson.

The suspect and victim were known neighborhood associates and this offense was not random, officials said.

The suspect was arrested Sunday morning by North Tryon patrol near the location of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, but no additional suspects are being sought.

Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder.

Saturday night: A man was found dead from a gunshot wound near The Plaza Saturday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers said.

The man's body was found in the 6000 block of The Plaza, police said.

Officials confirmed the man was shot in the chest.

Police are investigating this ongoing case as a homicide and have not yet released the victim’s name.
