1 killed, 2 injured after driver loses control, crashes stolen car in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — One person was killed, and two others were injured following a single-vehicle crash involving a stolen car in east Charlotte early Sunday morning.

MEDIC and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the scene at the 3200 block of Shamrock Drive shortly after 3 a.m.

Two patients were sent to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene, MEDIC said.

The deceased victim was identified as 18-year-old Anthony Pavon Santos.

Officials said the stolen Kia Forte was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, ran off the road, and crashed into a tree and telephone pole.

Those injured have not been identified, but police said one of the injured passengers was a juvenile.

Police are investigating the crash and have asked that drivers avoid the area.

No additional details have been made available.
